What is going on? Jobs are given on sentimental and emotional attachments rather than merit and distinction. The Senate appoints an ambassador on ‘compassionate grounds’ and the Senate foreign affairs committee ‘so that she will retire as an ambassador.’ Then I ask, is she to perform her job dutifully or barely hang on till time permits her retirement?
What are we building here, retirement packages as payments for favor towards political aspirations or election? Or in the name of zoning, get the unqualified to heard Nigeria’s affairs abroad. Do these parliamentarians realize people like Hilary Clinton don't relate with ambassadors on compassionate grounds but sound reasoning and astute knowledge on world affairs and high level stakes?
If I can't recite the national anthem, stand petrified before my fellow Nigerians then wouldn’t the aura of Obama, or Gadhaffi be worse off? What counter diplomat or president would believe you know about their country’s affairs when you don't know the kindergarten requirements of the country you represent?
Sentiments or not, these archaic types of attitudes and kick backs should be booted out. That’s why many Governors-turned-Senators, Senators-turned-Ministers, Ministers-turned-Advisers are being rotated in the name of national interest and do or die desires to retire as politicians.
Nigeria wake up! As Oluronmibe Mamora said, ‘we cannot continue to allow mediocrity, it is not helping us, we cannot allow this lady pass.’ ‘We cannot continue to give blanket clearance.’

A child born in a bakery isn't bread or a baker, neither is a dog born in a stable called a horse.
Longevity isn't the same as excellence, Ijeoma has been lucky and fortune has gotten her to where she is today. At some point everyone runs out of luck, substance carries you onwards. How can you meet world leaders but can't face your fellow countrymen and speak?
If you call someone educated and enlightened yet can't meet up with the very basis of what she stands for then the foundational premises she stands upon are worth questioning. An economist who doesn't know the interconnect between demand and supply can't be entrusted with people's fortunes. What do you call Nigeria, a company or a country of people?
This debate is not about anyone who comments but about the nature and standard of expectation of a public official. Here in the UK, even if the Prime Minister acts below his standard, the people (whom he represents in a democracy) can call for his resignation or at least question his qualification. On that note, your comment above is beside the point. I rest my case.
